Results of the People's Consulation on Haggerston Pool

NUMBERS
40 people returned filled in consultation sheets

WHO WERE THE CONSULTEES?
While most people identified themselves as ‘individuals’, there were also small numbers who identified themselves as families, community groups, schools and voluntary sector groups.

WHO DID THEY REPRESENT?
Just over half of the respondents said they represented themselves. The other half represented faith groups, community or residents organisations, swimming groups, arts and cultural organisations, a nursery, and architects practice, a pensioners organisation and unspecified not-for-profit groups.

WHAT FACITITIES DID THEY WANT TO SEE?
The numbers are filled in below – the biggest wish was for the restoration of a swimming pool at Haggerston. Some people filled in that they would like to see a 25m and a 20m pool (no harm in asking).

Comments:

  • We urgently need more facilities for young people
  • Keep them as they are
  • Building should be renovated to include pool and extra facilities to make the building and venture profitable and sustainable
  • Pool please
  • This area needs a swimming pool/s
  • We feel it should be a sports facility and above all a swimming pool.
  • Essential now as has always been for this area. We have been 'robbed' of these byu the sheer incompetence and neglect of Hackney Boro Council. Give us back to Shoreditch and the finest Borough of London it was!!
  • Not enough solo use provision ie swimming
  • If possible all, in conjunction with new academy with other primaries for children to learn to swim

Comments:

  • I think the multi purpose space could be used for arts and cultural facilities too. The most important thing is
    the pool
  • None, keep it for swimming
  • Keep it focused on health and sport
  • Lets keep the emphasis for now on swimming/physical stuff with porvision for other as space allows!
  • So long as there's a pool.

Comments:

  • This area needs a children's library
  • This area needs more communal provision for the young and elderly
  • So long as there's a pool

Comments:

  • No housing
  • Area is becoming expensive which means affordable is needed!
  • This area does not need more private housing
  • No, keep it for swimming
  • Not needed
  • No housing!!!!!
GENERAL COMMENTS:
  • The priority is the swimming pool
  • Haggerston should be prioritized over the lido – waste of money, outdoor, heated
  • LBH has saved c. £500k in salaries from Clissold – should have gone to Haggerston
  • Please re-open the pool!
  • Please give us a pool
  • Reopen
  • We just want a swimming pool. Re-open our swimming pool.
  • Not enough exercise = high cholesterol. Children need to swim.
  • “Slackney” Hackney have ‘sold out’ their people and their needs
  • I live in the community, I shouldn’t have to be part of a businesss or organization to participate in this consultation exercise
  • Reopen the pool!
  • Better to provide limited facilities well, than offer a poorly resolved, poorly funded mixture to satisfy all.
  • The government is not only financing Manchester Baths but does provide money for Baths all over the country
  • Destruction of Goldsmith's Row library and cuts in Hackney CIty Farm grants have affected facilities for children in this area
  • As a member of a family who does not currently have internet access at home and the parent of 3 kids, one at secondary school, I feel we are at a big disadvantage in areas of work, education, leisure....
  • I think everything should be about the pool and putting it at the centre of why anything else happens in the building. Eg listening to the physiotherapist speaking at this meeting I wonder that if there was specialist physio facilities/pool that became a centre of excellence alongside the pool ie the pool supports it and it supports the pool, to be known far and wide
  • Don't try to squeeze too much in - keep it focused on swimming and fitness.
  • The overall area could become an exciting place for the local community and visitors to the area with access to excellent sports facilities at the pool and a vibrant arts centre acorss the road at the Drawing Room. The new Bridge Academy would also beneifit from having use of the pool.
  • Listen to the voice(s) of Haggerston area people! We want our pool back! ASAP so that itcan be used to assist would be 2012 Olympic champions/contestants. We should not have to beg for this. Hackney and its councillors, the national (government) ministers concerned should be on our side. It can be afforded. Just do it!
  • No flats!!!!!
  • Just get the pool re-opened - our health and well-being is at risk.
  • Just get it done well!
