Next meeting
The next meeting of Haggerston Pool campaign is on Wednesday April 2nd at 7pm at the Tenants Flat, 75 Hebden Court, Laburnum Street E2 8BG. Everyone welcome.

Results of structural survey of Haggerston Pool
The council have received a grant from English Heritage towards the cost of a full structural survey on the pool. This has now been carried out and the pool has been found to be relatively structurally sound, although there are problems with dry rot, corrosion of the steel struts over the pool, cracked bricks and disintegration of some of the floors. One of the biggest problems is the cracking to the west side of the building, which has led the council to propose to demolish and rebuild a part of the building (but not the façade, the chimney or any of the pool hall).

Haggerston Pool as Healthy Living Centre – the next steps
The proposal is still for an integrated healthy living centre, including restored pool and sports facilities, GP surgery, dentist, community kitchen, IT suite and other community facilities.

The next steps are for officers of the council to draw up options – and the cabinet is likely to make a decision in the summer on whether to go ahead, and try to find the funding for the Healthy Living Centre.

Pool Campaign Actions
We are collecting signatures on a petition – you can download a form from www.haggerstonpool.com if you would like to help. Later in the year we will be taking a deputation to the council, to call for the re-opening of the pool at affordable prices.

Health Survey
The NHS are consulting the public about health care provision in London – there are lots of opportunities in the survey to point out that sports facilities – like swimming pools – save the NHS money in the long run. www.healthcareforlondon.nhs.uk

Laburnum Street Party
Laburnum Street Party 2008 will be on July 13th – more details soon.

How can you help?
